Production Migration Solution Nets National Electronics Retailer $300K in Annual Savings

A leading electronics retailer and longtime premedia client tapped RPR to brings its antiquated production workflow into the digital age. After transitioning the retailer to a digital production workflow — saving hundreds of thousands of dollars annually — RPR was contracted to migrate all production in-house and manage the entire process.

Serving as workflow technology consultants, problem solvers and trainers, RPR built a plan for implementation of an internal production solution.

The first step was the creation of an image database for the retail giant. This cutting-edge precursor to today’s digital asset management systems introduced them to digital file formats, PDFs and the process improvements achieved from direct-to-plate workflows. RPR also created a systemized page-building technique that utilized layers, expediting the significant versioning necessary for this nationwide retailer while reducing production time and improving accuracy.

After conducting extensive due diligence interviews and planning sessions, RPR’s technical staff reconfigured the retailer’s Windows-based workstations for the corporate creative staff. Included was the installation of  the necessary production and preflight applications, fonts, utilities and plug-ins/extensions, such as Adobe Creative Suite, QuarkXpress, Extensis Flight Check, Acrobat Distiller, Pitstop and others.

RPR completed its two-year migration and implementation plan in just under 18 months and under budget. The result was an annual hard-dollar savings of more than $300,000 for the electronics chain, and an expansion of their reach with significantly improved time-to-market.
